I (will) do!

Why do we hate to be told? Many animals we see do obey us and there is no question of intelligence here. We could tame a lion, do doubt, but they do obey us when he instruct them. Humans surprisingly do not like to be told and reactions are often more disastrous! Here is the list of things we are told, in the garb of double standards, not to do right from childhood till "death do us apart" (:=P) :-
  • Don't play in the mud...(but we do go to beach only for that)
  • Don't eat like that...(whatever that means, but take a look when people have buffet)
  • Don't keep on playing...(but elders do admire Sportsmen, especially the money around the Stars)
  • Don't watch TV...(do I have to say anything on this)
  • Don't put such posters...(check any elder's Internet Surfing Folders, one would know what posters are being watched)
  • Don't over study(sometimes even this is said)...
  • Don't pick your nose...(I agree)
  • Don't speak like that to your elders(uncles etc)...(well fights amongst elders never end within family and conflicts on street they are ephemeral)
  • Don't keep the music so loud...(remember Ganpati or Navratri festivals, even worse is Gayatri Mantra by Lata ji all the day long loud and clear)
  • Don't associate with that boy or that girl...(yeah right! like elders always make the right choice, and never loose anything like money or whatever by cons)
  • Don't be hasty...(lets look at Bus Stop or Train Station)
Now it progresses to elders being told & it gets more funny when they are told by their so called parents and elders by Law and Democracy, The Government :-
  • Don't smoke...(but they will never close the Tobacco Companies, reason, TAX!!!)
  • Don't keep the bar open till this time...(who would like to drink in the morning?)
  • Don't litter...(I agree)
  • Don't marry at this age...
  • Don't (in fact say no to...) Drugs...(this is always confusing, but I will come to this on a different posting)
  • Don't drive so fast...(like there are any options, but why not have better safety measures, ask the pavement dwellers to go away from cities, footpaths are not meant for them)
  • Don't join Government Office as an employee after certain age limit...(what age has to do with working as a Govt employee, take a lesson from Pvt Sector, with age comes experience)
  • Don't see certain movies...(Censor board! Hah! A body which is nothing but a joke, people see things whatever they want from internet or even on streets)
What I identified is the more we are being told don't do it, we tend to do it anyway. There is always some one above in terms of age or post or status who says don't do and there is always this urge to do it. Why are we like that...? I am wondering about this anthropologically.
