Living a Lie is a Bliss - All is well...

"Living a Lie is a Bliss", isn't it? Well I am not saying we should lie to people but for many, many aspects lying to yourself is indeed a better way of avoiding depression, sorrow, disappointment and fueling optimism at large. I might sound as suggesting a prescription but the real world asks you to be in a Bliss and live a lie whenever possible. Your lies will not be tolerated but you living a lie is very much accepted. From the very world we call it as ours, our family, our relatives, our friends and dear ones to the world of profession, business, place where commercial transaction is involved from job to things we buy for life, for surviving, everywhere you are expected not to lie but if you are living a lie, then you are welcomed. Yes! Its the hypocrite world. You cannot stand alone by refusing to accept the life that is given to you by everybody including the government. We live to fulfill this lie.

What happens if we refuse to accept the lie around us? Take for example these two simple facts that we Mumbaikars travelling by train in Central Railway experience -
1) First Class Compartment
2) Fast Trains
Are these two really what they claim to be? A First Class Compartment commuter has to pay 3 times more than the Second Class commuter. What does he get three times more out of it? Well for starters, in a typical 12 Coach Compartment, there are only three zones/divisions where First Class Compartments (not entire coach but partially divided with Second Class Compartments) exist. They are further cut into ladies and gents. Net area that is available to stand in the train and breathe while commuting (something that is too much to ask, actually, even after 7+ decades of independence and living in the financial capital of nation) is much much lesser. Definitely not the three times space that I can expect if I pay three times more as per the real estate rule. Add to this, unruly passengers, quarrelling for feet-space and entry with breathe stuck between people due to rush. Bonus to this remains to be addition of filthy people, possibly not holding the first class ticket and commuting with arrogance, ignorance and panacea. Yet, every month, I do not want to buy the Second Class Season Ticket. Not only me, but many Bliss seekers do the same. Why? Why do we want to live this lie? Whom do we want to show that we are travelling First Class whereas all classes in the local trains are cattle class? But we ignore this fact. Not me but many such commuters keep cribbing about this state of affairs and government's lethargy. Some take charge of cleaning up the mess by fighting or advising with the filthy people who do not hold a valid ticket, assuming 2-5 such passengers being eliminated out of 90 odd valid ones will give us more space. There is no Ticket Checker in this world who can enter the compartment during peak hours to check this and often they are not seen on the platform to tap such delinquents. All said and done, why do we call it a First Class Compartment and why do we pay so much for no service at all? Its the prestige issue we carry. We want to live a lie that we are travelling First Class whereas its not true. We travel worse than a cattle being shunted to slaughter house.
The another point is Fast Trains. How fast do they take you to destination. Maximum journey period for the last junction in Central Railways from my home-town destination is 1 hour and 25 minutes.  Thereafter, the train returns back with same speed and same rush to same spot it started or so.. This is by a "slow train, stopping at all stations". A fast train covers the same distance in 1 hour and 15 minutes. And for that 10 minute lead, Mumbaikars fight to board every such fast train as if is the last  train on planet to take you to paradise. The mad rush for 10 minutes. Often this fast train is late with respect to a slow train and we reach the time the slow train might take. But we want to call it a fast train. We love to live the lie. We love to be in bliss.

If the above examples are not for everyone or not so relevant, think of anything that you are being with around. Any act we do, it is our mind telling us that this is happening right not to bother yourself. In 2009 there was a movie called 3 Idiots and there was this famous line by Rancho, "All is Well..". The character Rancho insists us to live a lie so that we can bear the most difficult situation. Agreed! Maybe it is required for situations out of our control. But what about situations that we have control but we just let it slip by. We want to lie to ourselves and live in a sublime bliss. Speaking the truth exposes the filth and we may not be ready to handle it though we deftly handle the lies we surround ourselves to.

Barring kids, aged less than 10 maybe, everybody is in the mode of living a lie. Lies tell us how to avoid fear and anxiety. But they also let us develop bad character. Living a lie is directly associated with being positive in life and surviving independently. I wonder why truth does not make us stronger as it is supposed to be and its the lies we say to ourselves about all the misgivings around us that makes us wake-up and do our routine hoping today won't be like yesterday if it was bad yesterday (another lie).

Do we really express what is in our mind? To anyone? If we do, we know what happens. Friends laugh at us. Spouses are unwilling to bear it. Parents might feel dejected. Kids will ignore us. Governments might punish us. Expressing our mind involves speaking a truth and calling a-spade-a-spade mentality. Bible says, "the truth shall set you free" but who wants to be free that way? We enjoy our freedom of living a lie than being isolated from the society for living the truth. We are not honest to anyone and if we do, our tongue is acerbic. Truth is bitter hence avoided more often in all forms..

For many mere survival is this sphere of lies. There is no right thing or wrong thing but it is the majority thing. What majority prefers and accepts we have to do that. Live a lie to stay in a bliss. I have always tried to be honest with every aspect I am involved in but yes, hence I could not reach to that spot where people have by living a lie. Lies give you confidence and power of thinking to maintain it. One has to think practically and move-on in life. Lies fulfill our hunger. Lies hide the truth in a such a way that you can almost believe the truth does not exist. It is fugacy.

Many areas the lies are a tool to be used officially like a doctor cannot tell the patient that his disease is incurable. The medicines will have side effect or they are ineffective. We lie to ourselves that we will succeed the next time. Operation of our loved one will be successful by the doctor. We will make a career out of this course. We will live in a big house. If we get more money, all our problems will be solved. So many lies that are enjoyable and gives you a sense of living, every breath.

Human beings might be the only living thing who do this. Its a pretty complicated thought process. They say to hide one lie you have to say 10 more. Why then we want to take the load of more work whereas truth does not have additional assignments? Sadly, life depends on Lies than Truths.

Dear Sundar

Very Nice writing..Each and every point is thoughtful.
Yes lies are awful in every way.. But the one which we tell ourselves throughout our life in the name of optimism are the most dangerous one. Being content because you are living in a heap of lies creates cognitive dissonance. You are so unaware of your discomfort that you don't even know its there. How many times we would say "I'm okay" but inside we are screaming for help. Its extremely hard to face the dark side of truth, but its worse to live in denial. I would rather choose disappointment than ignorance.
